When water polo first began at Newport Harbor High School in 1959, no one could have predicted the success the program would achieve or imagine the lasting impact it would have on the lives of the young men (and later young women) who would join its ranks.
Guided by the vision of Coach Bill Barnett, built upon a foundation of hard work, dedication, and competitive spirit, Newport Harbor Water Polo went on to establish an unparalleled tradition of excellence, representing the collective achievements of multiple generations of student-athletes and coaches. As each new group of freshmen enters the Newport Harbor pool, they are tasked with carrying that tradition forward, building upon the success of those who came before them, to add their own chapters to the program’s ongoing legacy.
Made up entirely of NHHS Water Polo Alumni, the Legacy Club seeks to strengthen the unique bond shared by our former players and foster an enduring connection to the program that will last far beyond an athlete’s time on campus and in the pool. United by history, shared experience and common purpose, our mission is to bring together multiple eras of former Sailors to honor the past, celebrate the present and sustain the future of Newport Harbor Water Polo excellence for generations to come.
